लॉर्ड्स के मैदान पर आज ही के दिन 37 साल पहले कपिल देव की अगुवाई वाली टीम इंडिया ने गत विजेता वेस्टइंडीज को फाइनल मुकाबले में 43 रन से मात देकर पहली वर्ल्ड कप जीता था। इस मैच में भारतीय टीम ने पहले बल्लेबाजी करते हुए श्रीकांत के 38 रन के दम पर विंडीज की धाकड़ टीम के सामने 184 रन का लक्ष्य रखा था।

हर किसी को लग रहा ता कि विंडीज की टीम इस लक्ष्य को बड़ी ही आसानी से हासिल कर वर्ल्ड कप जीतने की हैट्रिक लगा देगी, लेकिन वो कहते हैं ना क्रिकेट अनिश्चिताओं का खेल है, यहां कभी भी कुछ भी हो सकता है।

ऐसा ही कुछ उसी मैच में हुआ था। विवि रिचर्ड्स जैसे धाकड़ बल्लेबाजों से भरी विंडीज की टीम उस दिन मात्र 140 रन पर ही ढेर हो गई थी। इस मैच में मदन लाल और मोहिंदर अमरनाथ ने सबसे अधिक तीन-तीन विकेट लिए वहीं संधू के खाते में दो और कपिल देव और रोजर बिन्नी को एक-एक विकेट मिला। इस जीत ने भारत को विश्व क्रिकेट में एक अलग पहचान दिलाने में मदद करी।

इस वर्ल्ड कप की 37वीं वर्षगांठ पर बीसीसीआई और आईसीसी समेत कई भारतीय क्रिकेटरों ने बधाई दी।
